National Conscience

The Colours We Breath

I don't want you standing at attention when you read this. I just want your minds at attention. This is for our National Anthem Conscience.
These verses ooze desperation.
"Arise o Compatriots,
Nigeria's call obey.
I have a message to convey,
And I want to go deep like gamma rays,
But first, I'd like us to put our minds on replay,
Arise o Compatriots,
Nigeria's call obey.
How many of us even hear the call to obey,
When we are plugged in, bumping the beats of our lives away?
I mean,
Look around you today,
The decadence aches like a tooth decay on a national scale!
The wind of dis-obey has birth a gale,
And this gale has birth a bloody trail,
This gale has birth a bloody trail,
This gale has birth a bloody trail!
To serve our Father land,
With love and strength and faith.
Faith?
How many of us even want to bear the burden of the weight?
How many of us even hope to tick the date our Father land becomes great?
All we care about is our pay's due date and bank rates.
We've joined the rat race to beat Gates,
Not caring what paths we take,
Crooked,
Straight,
Zero concern for the voids it creates,
Like soaring crime rates,
I ask again, how can we become great?
The labour of our heroes past,
Shall never be in vain.
Sometimes, I feel like there is no labour to go in vain,
Cuz it feels like we never had heroes.
The zeroes so much they've diluted the heroes of the past and of now.
Our heroes of now are those with the most zeros.
We forget the ones in rags in whose hearts are the real heroes.
To serve with heart and might,
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
Freedom? Peace? Unity?
Like...
Seriously?
This may be too deep,
But I've learned that freedom isn't free.
And being free isn't freedom.
How can we be free,
When our doors open and close only to the Capitalist's keys?
How would we say we are free,
When we don't know for sure what it really means to be free?
Our unity and peace?
I'll rather go take a piss than grease your minds with talks of unity and peace.
But in two words,
Its in bits and pieces!
But still,
I pray,
O God of creation,
Direct our noble cause.
Guide our leaders right.
But first, give us leaders that won't bite,
Leaders who understand our plight,
Leaders who don't fly the jets of capital flight.
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty height attain
To build a nation where peace
And justice reign.
And to us the youth,
Let's pick up our arms of truth.
Let's leave our guilt in the past.
Let's worry less about the future and focus on our now,
Cuz if we take care of now,
Now will take care of the future.
And for those whose hopes lie in graves,
Its time to exhume the corpses,
So our future's ways, we can pave."
